“It’s almost weird to see a Stanford (student) résumé that doesn’t have a startup on it,” said Rory McDonald, a doctoral student at the Stanford Technology Ventures Program.
The program teaches undergraduate and graduate students from all majors entrepreneurial skills.
McDonald, who will begin teaching strategy and entrepreneurship at UT this summer, said Stanford students see startups as a legitimate, and even comfortable, way to get experience in the business world.
That aspect of Silicon Valley culture will be very hard to replicate, he said.
“It’s definitely not the water we’re drinking,” McDonald said. “It’s 30 years of historical forces.”
